A few months ago I linked to Alan Stanton's 14 second epic video on household rubbish dumped in the street. Alan recorded the council's swift action in a note here. On the same theme, here's a recent example of action from East Dulwich Forum:

When we were clearing out my in
laws house, we contacted some waste removers who assured us that they
were taking odd bits of furniture, old broken books etc to a licensed
dump. A few weeks later we were sent a letter from Lambeth Environmental
Team saying that they were taking us to court for dumping stuff on
Peabody Hill. They had found some broken books with my father in laws
name in them ( He had an unusual Polish name) and traced the house via
council tax records. We rang them up and informed them what had happened
and we still had the flyer of the waste removal firm with us. lambeth
took the flyer, sorted out some' marked' rubbish, and contacted the
waste disposal people and caught them in the act of dumping.
