Social capital and community resilience: international conference
New Lanark, Scotland, 4 June 2009

New lanark Assist Social Capital have organised an inspiring programme for an international conference at an inspiring venue - the New Lanark Heritage Centre, where Robert Owen made such an impact on the cooperative movement 150 years ago.

The event will

'focus on practical examples of the connection between community resilience and social capital in the success of a community's efforts to cope with adversity and enhance collective wellbeing.'

Digital neighbourhoods game David Wilcox reports here on a scaled-up version of the old neighbourhoods online game - the digital neighbourhoods game - working with Ed Klute in the Netherlands. I have a strong recollection of Ed's involvement in a game that David ran with Drew Mackie at an event I organised for the Home Office back in the 90s, and it's great to see this regrouping around such a useful process. Also reassuring to hear how the process still has impact and can be applied afresh - in this case for a programme for 'media coaches'. David notes: What was different - and gave me some fresh ideas - was playing up the role of media coaches from different organisations, scaling up some of the projects, and using examples from a trans-European programme.
