?Quote-unquote?

Sometimes computer systems struggle to reproduce punctuation accurately. Here's a sweet example from today's Planning Daily email bulletin:

'Communities secretary Hazel Blears has unveiled the government?s ?vision? for the future of the regeneration sector.'

I absolutely love where I live, Abbots Bromley in Staffordhire. After living in towns and cities for most of my life it is so great to live in such a wonderful community. We have only lived in the village for 20 months, but already feel as though we've been here all our lives.

The majority of the people are so friendly and it is difficult to take our dog for a walk without having at least half a dozen conversations along the way.

The Village as 4 pubs serving great food and an Indian Restaurant - what more could you ask for?

We also have a village store, butchers and two clothes shops and so mainy clubs and societies for all ages.

It's a great place to come home to and, when seeing friends, we try to persuade them to come to us because there's nowhere we'd rather be!

Kids parties are class battlefields I asked, how was your weekend? My friend said, I helped run a party for 25 kids. Her neighbour had come to her and said, can you help me, I don't have any money and I have to organise a children's party. There's a school-based network of mostly wealthy families and the children all go to each others' parties. These are events where the families seem to try to outdo each other with extravagant goody bags. This parent didn't want her child to get detached from some necessary friendships, so the whole class was invited. My friend mucked-in willingly, giving up a substantial part of her weekend. They did it on a shoestring, prepared and served food, organised games and activities, all the children made things to take away, and apparently had a blast. As so often, the kids were great. Whereas some of the parents showed up, stayed most of the way through, and it was too much for them to lift a finger to help. Presumably they thought the two women doing all the running around were hirelings making a fuss.

BBC Radio 2 offers Love Where You Live all next week, including Jeremy Vine exploring local social themes as follows: On Monday, BBC Home Editor Mark Easton reveals the UK's friendliest town, while on Tuesday Jeremy talks to listeners about neighbourhood disputes. Meanwhile the Big Lunch national street party day (19 July) is promoted here ("turning our streets into neighbourhoods - priceless") and immediately generated such classic responses as this: There are some prostitutes living on my street. I dont want to meet them. one word: Vomit Who likes there neighbors - no-one that's who. I'm not spending my bloody birthday having lunch with my pikey neighbours.
