After Ben Jupp's Demos report, Living together, a few years back, I think there was a bit of a pause but recently lots of work going on around mixed tenure and mixed income neighbourhoods, as part of a JRF programme.
So this is handy - JRF have today published a research summary, written by Chris Holmes, that encompasses more than twenty case studies and comes up with a number of policy conclusions.
It claims, for instance that, overwhelmingly, the localities studied were judged successful; they were not characterised by the problems often linked with exclusively low-income areas. Again, I think significantly, mixed tenure and mixed income were 'non-issues' to residents.
"The studies have demonstrated that mixed income communities can give low-income residents access to successful environments. Although a minority of better-off households may have negative views, most are either neutral or prefer mixed income communities."
