Nelson Street in Bristol recently hosted an international festival of street art, with some huge works which must have been stunning from street level.
I always wonder a little about the flows of assimilation in initiatives of this kind. But in this case it feels like there is an honest distance between street art and graffiti. I don't see that the fundamentally anarchic, challenging nature of graffiti is really compromised.
What strikes me though in the material I've looked at is the absence of the voice of the residents of Nelson Street itself.
Short film here.
